Prose
1. Answer any two of the following questions each in about 100 words: 6×2=12

(b) How does Kalam depict the ethnic character of his locality? How does he recollect his experience of evening prayer with his father?
(c) “Here comes someone running”-Who is the speaker and who is the person spoken to? Why did ‘the man’ come running Describe the physical state of the man. How was the man received by them?
(d) Briefly sketch the character of Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones.
(e) “I wondered if my words had touched
her”- Who is the speaker and about whom
did he make this remark? What ‘words’ were spoken by the speaker? What was the reaction of the person spoken to on hearing his ‘words’?
(f) What fundamental truths were revealed to Kalam by his father?
(g) “Here comes someone running”-Who
came running out of the wood and why?
Narrate the incidents.that followed leading to a happy reconciliation.
(h) Why did Roger not try to run away later although he had an opportunity to do so?
Poetry
2. Answer any two of the following questions each in about 100 words:
(a) Comment on the title of the poem “The Poetry of Earth”.
(b) “Nor shall death brag thou wand’rest in his shade”-Who is referred to as ‘thou’? How does the poet propose to win over the brag of death?
(c) How does the poet express the futility of war through his poem ‘Asleep in the Valley’? What message does he want to convey?
